Ship to Ship Transfer Safety Procedures


The learning objective of this chapter is to become aware of:

The STS safety procedures prior to the operation, including:
·       Inspection of equipment: fender riggings. Fenders. Cargo hoses. mooring lines
·       Safety meetings with crew conducted on both ships
·       Risk assessment, contingency planning and oil pollution preparedness

Establishment of radio communication between the two ships, ensuring communication during approach, mooring, cargo transfer and unmooring.

Requirements for exchange of information between the two ships. including:
·       Cargo details
·       Weather and navigational conditions
·       Mooring plans
·       Language to be used during operation
·       Rendezvous position and estimated time of arrival
·       Agreement of security level and security plans in accordance with ISPS
·       Agreement of course and speed during run in
